First Aid Course
Knowing that pets are an important part of many people's
lives, the American Red Cross has added a pet first aid course,
"First
Aid for Cats and Dogs," that teaches the basics to help
a pet during an emergency. Participants will learn how to identify
and respond to choking, cardiac arrest, poisoning, seizers, and
other emergencies. With "people-friendly" cat and dog
manikins, CPR skills are taught and practiced during the course.
To learn more, call 1-877 REDCROSS (1-877-733-2767), or review the
chapter's course catalog at www.nyredcross.org.
Pet First Aid Kit
From responding to open wounds to caring for injured
bones on a furry friend, the American Red Cross Pet First Aid Kit
has everything a pet owner/guardian needs to help a pet during an
emergency. Light and easy to store in the house or car, the kit
is equipped with a trauma pad, gauze pads and roll, medical grade
vinyl gloves, eye wash, penlight, eyedropper, hydrogen peroxide,
swabs, antibiotic ointment, scissors, cold-pack, and styptic pencil.
The $20 kit is available at the Red Cross Store in Manhattan (520
West 49th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues), Monday–Friday,
8:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m., or online at www.nyredcross.org.
New York's premier source for safety and preparedness information
and materials for pets and people, the store provides the pet first
aid kit that every pet owner/guardian should have handy.
