NYPD K-9 Unit First Aid Training
In another show of support for a special breed of
NYC animals, FAVS provided New York Police Department K-9 Unit handlers
with extensive emergency intervention training as a part of an exclusive
NYPD Emergency Veterinary Training program.
During the three-hour course and live demonstration,
officers learned first aid techniques and procedures to administer
vital first aid care for their four-legged partners in case of an
on-the-job injury or accident. Subjects covered included physical
examinations, airway management, heat stroke, electrocution, poisoning,
gunshot and stab wounds, and breathing tube insertion, among other
topics.
The training course is part of a support program
provided by FAVS to contribute its services and expertise to local
law enforcement and the community.
